Beach Trip

It's still snowing in Utah and I can't stand it anymore.
We took off for the beach in Oceanside California for Spring Break.
I loved this vacation because it was pure relaxation.
See?  Look how relaxed the kids are in their PJ's playing their video games while mom sleeps in.  :)

We spent almost every day swimming.
Have I mentioned that I hate pools?  It is pure stress for me having to watch 4 kids in the pools.
Our hotel had this awesome kiddie area and splash pad where I could sit down and relax a little.
Awesome.

My boys are good swimmers now, so I don't worry so much about them anymore.

On one of the colder days, we headed down to San Diego to see the Mormon Battalion site.
We walked around Old Town and ate Mexican food.

There.  Proof my dad was with us.  He came down with us and we shared a condo.  We had a lot of fun.

Mormon Battalion

The highlight of the trip was the beach.
Julie and her boys were able to meet up with us most days.
L to R:  Ben, Jake, Josh, Lucy, Sam and Ethan

Scariest moment: (not just me being neurotic--really scary!) On the first day there we went to a beach in Oceanside that we have never been to before.  The boys were eager to get out there, but Josh went out a little too far and got caught in a minor rip current.  He was being sucked sideways pretty fast.  We were yelling and yelling at him but he couldn't hear us.  There are no lifeguards in the off season.  I waded out a little and heard him yelling for help and that he couldn't touch the bottom.  I absolutely panicked and sent Jeff out to get him. Needless to say, we didn't go back to that beach.  Instead, we drove up to San Clemente to beaches we were more familiar with.

Ben and Ethan couldn't care less about the water.
They were only interested in the rocks.  "See, Aunt Amy?"

I have to say that it was very hard for me to be so close to Disneyland and not be able to go.
I begged Jeff to go for just one day, but no one wanted to go but me, and I knew it would be super crowded for Spring Break.
Why do I love Disneyland so much?  I really don't know.
I think it's just the whole bonding experience with my kids.  I tear up when I listen to the Disney ride theme songs.

As a consolation, Jeff promised to take me when we come back to California for the Bar Convention in July.
Just him and me.
Just like we did for our honeymoon 16 (Sixteen!) years ago.
I haven't been on a ride with him since then.
I am beyond excited!

I think we will just get annual passports this time.  :)

We ate at the Cafe Coyote too. Only bad part...when they seated us by the bar on a Friday night and we got to be right next to the "happy" loud people. We are thinking of trying Miguel's across the street next time. Glad you had fun. Disneyland was only really crowded on Thursday, but maybe when we take our three boys we will go during an "off season" time.

Trent got $300 free in vouchers from Southwest for messing up his flight, so I think he and I are going to go to San Diego alone :) Disneyland is super fun, but exhausting. I think it is smart to go out and just relax in Cali :)

Amy- Amanda (my daughter) almost drowned at Oceanside beach when we lived in San Diego and a life guard was on duty. Same thing- a rip tide grabbed her and pulled her under water. Luckily a surfer saw her go down and not come back up and rushed over and helped her. I HATE HATE HATE Oceanside beach. I never went there again. Sean still took Zach to surf and I was sick to my stomach the whole time they were gone. Glad you all had fun.
