Messy Boy and Beautiful Girl

This is what one chocolate chip cookie looks like.  One.  ONE! (That's for you, Steph....and Stacey--who named me her number 1 most dramatic person on her blog)

Lucy at her graduation from Bear Hollow Pre-School.
The afternoon and morning classes were both there, so there were about 35 kids.  Miss Molly called them all up one by one to give them a special award.  Lucy was the very last one called up and Miss Molly said she knew she could leave Lucy until very last because she could count on her to sit still and quietly while waiting her turn.  Lucy's award was "Most Polite".  I am so proud.

When I went to her Parent Teacher conference the next day, Miss Molly said she would have given Lucy the "Most Perfect" award if she could have done so without making the other parents and kids feel bad.  I was particularly proud when she told me that Lucy had been an extra special friend to the little girl with special needs in her class.
Just had to throw these in of my little beauty on a really good hair day.  Oh, how I wish I had her hair.

Happenings

Josh has officially become a pre-teenager.  This was the first year that he didn't want any toys for his birthday.  All he wanted was a blue video ipod nano.  I was a little sad about it--my little boy is growing up and wants to listen to "cool music".  The only consolation I had was that he also wanted to download and watch Spongebob on it too :)

Jeff took the day off from work (after all, it was his birthday too), and we all went to the zoo.  Here are Sam and Jeff on the train.
Josh and Jake on the train.  We asked Josh if he wanted to be checked out of school and he said "only if you check Jake out too".  They are best friends.
Sammy, wanting to be a big boy, too, walking around the zoo.

Over Mother's Day weekend we took another trip to Thanksgiving Point.  We never get sick of going there.

One of the only traits Jake inherited from his mother is that he literally cannot function if he gets too hungry.  The last half hour of the trip Jake started to complain he was hungry.  We were too dumb to pack any food and we happened to have no cash for the vending machines.  This is what happened at the very end.  We were in the greenhouse and Jake flopped on the floor and refused to get up.  He was crying and crawling around.   People were staring (and probably thinking "I would NEVER let my kid do that"), but I am soooooo over that.  I just laughed and took pictures of the spectacle.  Jeff had to carry him out and as soon as we fed him he was fine.  The end.

It is so much fun having Lucy take dance at the studio where I teach ballet.  I can't wait until she is old enough to take my ballet class.  We had our recital last night and it was a success.  Lucy was in two dances.  Here she is in her maid costume.

And here she is in her Indian (I know, it should be Native American) costume getting ready to go on stage.
At the dress rehearsal on stage.
I love my cute little dancer!

Jake and Lucy's Turn

Jake:

When Jake was just learning to talk he would always answer "yes" to a question by saying "me".
Ex:  Do you want a drink?  "me".

He called Bumble bees, Boobies;  potatoes, punatatoes; bananas, bununanas--and he got potato and banana mixed up and called them bununana bugs. 2

"watering can't and garbage can't" 2

He called his new cousin Booby Caper instead of Baby Cooper. 3

One of his first prayers:
"Heffather, thankful this day, bless momma all better, bless Joshy all better, bless vinegar, bless pumpkins, bless wind, bless candles, bless flowers, Jesus Christ, Amen" 2 1/2

He thought the Dinosaur Museum was called Dinosaurs to see 'em.  I tried to correct him so he changed it to Dinosaurs, you see 'em.  age 3-6

When I got my hair styled curly he said "Momma, what's your hair doin'?" 3

Anytime I would get mad, Jake would say in a concerned voice:  "momma, you're not mad, your happy."  3

Jeff came home from a bad day at work.  We were all eating dinner and Jeff said he had lost a big motion (case) at work.  Jake, trying to help, said:  "I'll help you find it dad."  3 1/2

Out of the blue:  "If Jesus comes to babysit, are you gonna stay or leave?" 4

Jake was watching a movie with a big, bald, black guy in it and asked Jeff, "How come some chocolate guys don't wear hair?"  4

Jake was wondering where dad was and asked me, "Is daddy on a date?"
I said no because he goes on dates with mommy.  He asked what a date was and I tried to explain.  He thought for a minute then asked, "does a date have a slide?" 4

"Is Jesus the boss?" 4

Jake had his Dracula Halloween costume on and he put his fake teeth in and said "Hah!  I'm a scary guy!"  He then quickly took the teeth out and said "don't worry mom, it's just me"  4

Jake got out of bed to tell me this:
"Mom, I just gotta tell ya somethin', I ate too much and I feel kinda sick, and we need to get pineapple and watermelon for fruit."  5

I said "This has been a lovely Mother's Day"
Jake: "Be prepared, cuz tomorrow's not"  8 (He said this 2 days ago on mother's day)

Lucy's Turn:  I fear I have not been as dedicated to writing everything down like I should.

"That cute daddy boy is cute!"  as she watched Jeff leave for a bike ride.  3

In a prayer:  'Bless Max that he won't be lost anymore, bless that we can go back to Disneyland, bless Jesus that He won't die right now anymore."  3

Graham Cracker = "gramp crapper" 2

"Mom, why is your bum so big?"  (I was 8 months pregnant by the way), then, "Mom, your bum is wiggling.  Can you feel it wiggle when you walk?" almost 4

We debated and debated between Isaac and Samuel for names for the new baby.  It was pretty much decided that it would be "Isaac" even though Lucy kept saying she liked Sam.  Finally, one night right before the baby was born we were discussing it again and trying to tell Lucy that his name would be Isaac.  She replied very matter-of-fact-ly:  "Fine, you can call him Isaac, but I am going to call him Sam"   ...and that's how little Sammy got his name.  almost 4

(Then I actually had the baby and all hell broke loose in my life and I have not recorded and more sayings.  Now that he (we) is/are better, I am going to be more diligent.)

Favorite Quotes

I have kept a journal since Josh was about 2 years old of all the funny things my kids have said.  I've decided to post a few of my favorites.

Josh:

We were getting fast food through the drive-thru and there was a truck ahead of us:
Josh (age 3): "What's that truck doin' up there?"
Jeff: It's getting some food.
Josh:  It's not getting food.  It doesn't have it's mouth.

Josh used to think any store was called "shoppin'-at-the-mall" 3

During prayers one night around x-mas time when Josh was 3 1/2 he said:
"Thankful for Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer, had a very shiny nose (and proceeded to say the words to the rest of the song)...

In response to telling Josh he couldn't go outside because he had a cold:
"I don't have a cold, I have a hot" age 3

In a prayer:  "Bless all our loved ones and the candy corns" 3

When Josh was 3 1/2 he was into Peter Pan and he went an entire summer calling me Wendy.  Even in the middle of the night when he had a legache or was sick he would call out "Wendy, Wendy!"

In protest to going to bed
"I wanna watch this TV show"
Me:  "you don't even know what this TV show is (angrily)"
Josh:  "Is it David Letterman?"  4

Josh:  "I wanna eat cereal with milk and get big and huge"
Me:  Yeah, like daddy?
Josh:  No, like Hercules, I wanna be a hero
Me:  and help others?
Josh:  yeah, and go the distance (the Hercules movie has a song "I Can Go the Distance")  4

Josh was telling me all the bad words he knew and how we shouldn't say them.  He kept saying over and over:
"Crap is a bad word, huh, mom?  We don't say crap, etc."
Me:  "Okay, Josh we don't need to talk about it anymore"
Josh:  "I'm just telling you the truth about crap, mom"  age 4

Josh once yelled at me:  "I'm just angry at you cuz you didn't repent!"  age 3 1/2

In a prayer:  "Thankful that no giants will get us, thankful that no crocodiles live in Highland" 3

I was frustrated because Jakey was crying (1 yr.) and Josh was asking me to do a million things and I said:
"I can't do everything, I only have 2 hands"
Josh in reply:  "What if you just had 3 hands, that would be better"

In primary for a Thanksgiving lesson the song leader held up a cornucopia and told the kids we put food in it.  Josh blurted out:  "We don't have one of those, we just put food in our fridge"

During Sacrament meeting I was trying to get Josh to be reverent during the Sacrament by asking what we should think about.  He put his finger to his temple and said "Winnie the Pooh thinks"
Me: "We think about Jesus"
Josh: "and Pooh thinks about honey"  3

After a frustrating night  of trying to get Josh to stay in his bed, Jeff spanked Josh's bum and Josh came out crying and said to me:
"Daddy spanked my bum and it went up to my heart and now my heart is broken"

I was mad at Josh and told him if he did something again I was going to have a cow.  He asked what that meant and I said it means when you get really mad.  A few days later he got mad at me and said:
"If you do that again I'm gonna have a moose, mixed up with a cow mixed up with a geese!" 4

Josh woke up on a Saturday morning and asked:
"Do you don't have to go to work today dad?"  (no)
"Do I don't go to school today?"  (no)
" Is it church day?"  (no)
"YES!  I love this day!  It's my favorite day!" 5

I got my hair done and had it styled curly instead of straight.  Josh said "I like it better when it isn't all squiggly"  5

Josh wanted me to go buy pizza for dinner and I said I was too tired.  He responded:
"I know, what if we turn our house into a pizza store, then we never have to go buy any" 5

Josh:"Are you making the chicken on the bone?" (drumsticks)
Me: " No, I don't know how to"
Josh: "It's easy, you just get a dog bone and glue some chicken on it" 6

Josh: " Did you know that midnight is the real nighttime and 8 o'clock and 9 o'clock and 10 o'clock are like the fake nighttimes" 6

Josh had a really good first grade parent/teacher conference and we were praising him:
"You're so good at everything, is there anything you're not good at?"
He responded after thinking a minute "I'm not very good at back flips" 6

I was putting Josh in time out and he asked "why are you putting me in time out?"
Me: "Because it took you 10 years to get upstairs when I asked"
Josh in his most sarcastic voice: " Oh, ten years, huh?  I'm 18 now, happy birthday!"  8

Now I just realized that this is a really long post and it's only a portion of the hilarious things that Josh has said over the years.  I'll have to dedicate another post to Jake and Lucy later.
