Christmas Goal

I found this post-it note on the desk in the kitchen.
It was written and posted there by Lucy for everyone to see.
It says:

Christmas goal
think about
Jesus
Christmas goal

I also need to take a minute for my yearly rant about Black Friday.
I love sales.  I love finding good bargains.
But Black Friday is just getting ridiculous.

When the stores all opened at 6:00 a.m., 5:00 a.m. or even 4:00 a.m. on Friday morning, I was fine with that.
One year, I even got brave and went to ToysRus at 6:45 a.m.
I walked in, had a claustrophobic attack, and walked right back out 2 minutes later.
I vowed I would never do it again.
It's just not for me.

This year Walmart and Target are opening at midnight.
Not to be outdone, ToysRus is opening at 9:00 p.m. on Thursday night.
9:00 p.m.?!?!?!?!
This is maddening!

It means that people will start lining up around 4:00 or 5:00 p.m.
Which means employees will have to arrive at least an hour earlier than that to get ready.
Which means those people will be rushing through the Thanksgiving family togetherness so they can be trampled by incredibly rude and greedy people (not all, but some--Hello!!!  Someone DIED last year in the frenzied mayhem!!!) to save a few bucks.
Do you see the crazy juxtaposition of things here?

We already have Christmas decor out with the Halloween decor.
We already have Christmas songs being played on the radio the SECOND trick-or-treating stops.
We already BARELY acknowledge the once-yearly meal of GRATITUDE.
Now, with stores trying to "one-up" each other, there will soon be no Thanksgiving at all.

There you go.
Rant over.

Happy Thanksgiving!

It's driving me nuts too! I have only been shopping on black Friday once- forever ago. And I will probably never do it again. I love thanksgiving and I think it's terrible that people are completely skipping it.

Agreed agreed agreed. I am a shopper, but I never have and never will shop on black Friday!

Oh and that sweet little Lucy! That should be on a post by itself. We all could use that goal. I am making it mine too. Love her so much!

Lucy's goal needs to be mailed to the CEO's of Target, Wal-Mart, Old Navy, etc. What has happened to Thanksgiving? I agree with you! I did the black Friday thing once. Yep. Once. Kudos to Lucy!!

Lucy is adorable. I love my two daughters who are sweet like that. I am so very grateful that God gave me two daughters in the middle of my wonderful, crazy brood of boys.

I enjoyed this post! I am determined to really celebrate Thanksgiving this year. There is much to be grateful for, especially Jesus :)

I love what Lucy wrote, means you are raising some great kiddos!

I also have felt for a long time that most people have sadly forgotten about Thanksgiving. So disheartening to see in my opinion, and I understand that most people enjoy the decorations and giving part of Christmas time, but when sales come out and decorations are throughout stores before Halloween, there is a little something wrong. Totally agree with you!

Don't you love how children get it? I hope you save this post-it note with your Christmas decor.
I'm with you about Black Friday. I read that ShopKo is open from 6 am to 6 pm on Thanksgiving. I'm SO sad for those employees! Seriously, we can't even have ONE day to be thankful and celebrate the goodness of God? Grrrrrr.

Thanks for the post. I needed it.

Black Friday gives me a major panic attack. I can't stand being in a store on a normal day when it's crowded! I'd much rather shop in my jammies in front of my computer and have my UPS man deliver them to me.
