Look closely at this picture.
Waaay up at the top of the front porch wall are two bird nests.
Look a little closer (or come knock at my door) and you'll see the lovely bird poop mess.
FYI #1: Did you know that bird poop is extremely hard to scrub off of stucco and cement?
Now look even closer. Sad! A baby bird fell to it's death.
FYI #2: Did you know it is illegal to knock down a nest once there are eggs/baby birds inside?
Not that I would have done that anyway. It's been kind of fun watching this little bird family.
(Except for the dead baby bird part, of course.)

I really and truthfully did not mean to giggle at this post.. not at the dead baby bird (awful) or the fact that you have a mess on your hands.. I giggled at the way you told this story. Dramatic. :)
I loved the way you told the story too!!! In fact I saw a momma bird trying to start a nest in my rot iron basket by my front door, and everytime I would open my door the bird would fly off a ways and wait for me to leave. After I caught on I hurried and removed the small twigs it had gathered so it would not continue to build there. She actually built her nest in the tree across the street. I'm glad I didn't have that mess to clean up. Happy Cleaning, and what a sad little baby bird. That really did make me feel sad.
They're mud swallow nests. Get rid of them once the babies are gone!! I had them at my old house, and if you leave the nests, the birds just keep coming year after year after year. And the bird poop gets worse and worse. I finally knocked the nests down after about 3 years. I couldn't handle the mess. I always had little baby birds fall out of their nests and die too. It made me so sad. Has the mom bird chased you yet? The mom bird used to always try to run me right off of my deck. Too funny!
